A REMINDER:  Pre-registration is required by mail or in person and must be accompanied by a 50% deposit of the class fee. All deposits are non-refundable. Fees do not include supplies. Supplies must be purchased prior to date of class. All classes start promptly.

KNITTING WORKSHOPS

BEGINNERS (for non-knitters)            Instructor: Kate Henderson  (All Sessions)

Covers all you need to know to knit.  Casting on, knitting, purling, ribbing, increasing, decreasing, binding off, and reading a pattern.  Supplies: One skein Lamb's Pride wst.wt. and #8 needles.                                                  Fee: $50.

    You’ve taken Beginner’s - now what? Each week we will have a brief lesson covering techniques such as knitting shoulder seams, in-depth pattern reading: how to correct mistakes and more, followed by supervised knitting. Bring an on-going project or start a new one.                                                                                                                      Fee: $50

THE DR. IS IN (All Levels)                        Instructors: Jay Allen – AM;  Kate Henderson - PM

For those who need more than a quick fix but whose schedule doesn't allow for commitment to a class - This may be for you ! Want to finish your sweater but not sure how to assemble it ? -  Need to do neck shaping ? - Need to pick up stitches for sleeves ? - or button bands ? - or whatever?

Now held every  Wednesday  morning with Jay 9 to 11 AM;                               and every Monday evening with Kate                7-9 P.M.

 

$15.00 for each 2 hour session. Space limited to 4 people for full attention. Call by 5 P.M. the Tuesday before to reserve space for A.M.  session; call by Sunday 4 P.M to reserve space for PM session.

 

TRADITIONAL ARAN CLASS   ( Basic Skills Required)           Instructor:   Diane Willey

Learn to make an Irish knit sweater with three different cable/texture patterns. A pullover or cardigan may be selected in either adult or child's sizes. Classes are spaced to allow time to complete the knitting  necessary to progress to the next step. Supplies must be purchased in time to complete homework before the first class.   Fee: $ 50                                                                     I. DEMYSTIFYING KNITTING (All levels)                  Instructor:  Ann Souto                         

A step-by-step look at the logic of knitting.  We'll unravel such "mysteries" as gauge, pattern design (shaping, how to add or omit a cable, change a neckline), proper fit, yarn choices, and more.  After learning a few rules-of-thumb of sweater design, you'll get to alter a pattern and tackle a sizing problem (on paper; we won't be knitting).  You should leave this workshop better able to understand patterns, change size, style, or gauge, knit sweaters to fit, and yes, even begin to design your own!  BRING: your calculator.  Fee: $25                                                 I. ARGYLE SOCK CLASS (Basic Skills Required)                                 Instructor: Jay Allen        Fee $ 40

“Everything old is new again!” Learn to do Intarsia (also called motif knitting) by making a hot “new” item – argyle socks! You will learn how to change colors, follow a chart, use bobbins, as well as turn a heel and use DP needles. Select supplies prior to class.

SOCK WORKSHOP  ( Basic skills required)                  Instructor:  Diane Willey                    Fee: $50        

Wool Socks make wonderful gifts and knit up quickly. Learn techniques you can apply to other patterns and styles. Covers double-point needles, circular knitting, Kitchener stitch.  Supplies needed: Ann Norling sock pattern, Fingering weight sock yarn, double-pointed needles. Purchase supplies prior to class.

SWEATER FINISHING  ( All levels)                       Instructor: Anne Gaffney                                        Fee: $25      

Finishing need not mean frustration.  For professional looking garments, learn clear, concise methods of picking up stitches, sewing seams, grafting, 3 needle bind off, making buttonholes, crocheting edges, what to do with ends.  BRING: 4 matching swatches of smooth, one-color yarn in stockinette stitch, approximately 4"x4" each, 2 still on needles and 2 bound off; matching yarn; a yarn sewing needle; and crochet hook               1 Section

SQUARE OF THE MONTH: ARAN STYLE   (Basic Skills Required) Instructors: Jay Allen & Elaine Wilder

Using “The Great American Afghanbook, we have chosen 6 different squares that will eventually (along with 14 others), become a sampler throw. We will learn a variety of Aran stitches and motifs – some of which are more challenging than others. We will meet monthly and you may sign up for all 6 classes (at a reduced rate) or for any individual class/month (1 square = 1 pillow).                                             Fee 6 months   $ 75                                       Individual $ 20

Entrelac Workshop (Advanced Beginner)        Instructor: Diane Willey

Entrelac is a knitting technique that makes your knitting look like woven strips. In this one evening workshop you will learn the technique to knit Entrelac by making an Entrelac swatch (of course, you can make a second one later and make a purse or pillow from your swatches).

Reading Graphs and Charts Workshop         (Advanced Beginner)       Instructor: Diane Willey

Have you ever decided NOT to do a pattern because it has a chart with no written row by row instructions?  Fear no more!  Charts and graphs are easy and fun once you take the mystery out of them.  Join us in this one night workshop where we will decipher charts and do some knitting…from just the charts!

Lillie’s Little Sweater or Knit a Baby Sweater (Advanced Beginner)               Instructor: Diane Willey

This adorable hooded sweater was developed by Cottage Creations to teach newer knitters additional techniques like short rows, decreases, buttonholes, use of markers, use of double point needles and finishing techniques.   Each week we will cover a technique to bring us to the next phase of the sweater construction and in just 6 weeks, you’ll have an adorable baby sweater!   More experienced knitters are welcome too!

Sally Melville’s Einstein Coat  (Basic skills)                           Instructor: Diane Willey

This is a very easy coat with lots of knitting, so how about a low stress knitting class that meets about once a month on Friday evenings!  We will be making the Einstein Coat from Sally Melville’s book The Knit Stitch.  “It’s called the Einstein Coat because you feel like a genius when it’s done”
